The annual spring festival, O Hanami, is a family-friendly celebration of both spring and Japanese culture at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre.
Festival highlights include Japanese dance, Taiko performances, martial arts demonstrations, Japanese cultural art displays, workshops, tea ceremony, children's activities, kimono dressing, and a variety of Japanese cuisine and shops
O Hanami Eve on Friday, April 3, (6 p.m. to 10 p.m.) You'll enjoy performances, demonstrations, displays, food and a variety of shops showcasing Japanese art and culture. **Hatsune Miku x Nikkei Centre** Hatsune Miku exclusive merchandise, and public viewing of " Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai 2019". Bring your own smartphone or tablet for a workshop and a free giveaway! Dahaza Performance Experience Japanese instrumental music from Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos, Anny Lin, John Nguyen, and Nori Akagi with a modern twist as well as an energetic performance by Dahaza! Kotoba Forest Secret Lounge The local art group presents a unique lounge space. A lounge where words are intertwined, music floats and all your senses mingle through the ambiance and yourself. O Hanami Saturday, April 4, (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Com enjoy Japanese-themed shops, a bookstore, and food vendors, bonsai, Japanese calligraphy, and origami displays. You can register to try on a kimono during O Hanami! You will wear a kimono chosen and dressed by experts from Satsuki-kai. You can also register for a Tea Ceremony! Ceremonies happen at 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. and tickets are $8 general, or $6 for members if booked in advance ($10/$8 at the door).
Friday night admission is $5, and Saturday is $3 (free for Nikkei Centre members and children five and under).
